Dear Fellow Residents of Hesperia,

I am excited to present to you my vision for a more vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous Hesperia. As a candidate for the city council, I am committed to addressing the pressing issues facing our community while also working towards a future that reflects our values of equity, opportunity, and sustainability. As a father of two amazing children I want to build a better world for them. I believe that we Hesperians deserve that better world now and together we can achieve it!

Improving Roads and Infrastructure

Hesperia's roads are vital arteries connecting our neighborhoods and businesses. Yet, our city has been ranked as one of the most dangerous cities to drive in America. As your council member, I will prioritize improving road safety through strategic investments in infrastructure upgrades, traffic management systems, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist protections. Investing in common sense repairs and technology to make our roads safer should be at the forefront of the city council's decisionmaking. These investments will ultimately reduce the risks and our insurance premiums over time as we rebuild our reputations and exit the Top 10 of most dangerous cities in America to drive in. Safer roads mean safer communities for all residents.

Implementing Rent Control

Affordable housing is a fundamental human right, and it's time for Hesperia to take action to protect tenants from skyrocketing rents and unjust evictions. I will advocate for the implementation of rent control measures to ensure that housing remains accessible and affordable for all residents, regardless of income level.

Expanding Healthcare Access

Access to quality healthcare should not be a luxury reserved for a privileged few. I will work to expand healthcare access in Hesperia by advocating for the establishment of community health clinics, increasing funding for mental health services, and promoting partnerships with healthcare providers to offer affordable care options for residents. My lofty goal is to band our High Desert cities and elected officials from D.C., Sacramento and our County together to build a Level One Trauma Center in the City of Hesperia. I am done hearing of lives lost we can and we will build the hospital our desert cities and towns deserve!

Fostering Inclusivity

Hesperia is a diverse community, and our strength lies in our differences. I am committed to fostering inclusivity and celebrating our community's diversity. As your council member, I will advocate for policies that promote equal opportunities for all residents, combat discrimination and prejudice, and ensure that every voice is heard in the decision-making process.

Attracting Businesses and Improving Revenue

To ensure Hesperia's long-term economic vitality, we must attract new businesses, support local entrepreneurs, and invest in our city's infrastructure and amenities. I will focus on attracting green tech and other businesses that employ union workers, as they not only bring innovation and job opportunities but also promote sustainable practices and fair wages. Additionally, I will champion investments in parks, entertainment venues, and local businesses to stimulate economic growth and generate revenue for our city. My goal is to work hand in hand with the Hesperia Recreation and Parks District to provide them with the resources needed to beauty our city and continue the great legacy of the district's contributions to our community. I foresee the building of a performing arts center, an arts district, a new restuarant row, and a convention center that will make Hesperia the entertainment capitol of the High Desert.

Education

My goal is too see Hesperia become the home for a future Cal State school. Be it a new 4-year university or a satellite campus for Cal State San Bernardino, I plan to work closely with our State Senators and Assembly Members to get this done.  We must give our younger generations the tools and training they need to succeed. Investing in our future leaders here at home and providing incentives for students that stay in the High Desert and invest their futures here will only grow our potential to new heights.

In conclusion, I believe that by working together, we can build a brighter future for Hesperia—one that is defined by safety, affordability, accessibility, inclusivity, and prosperity for all. My platform sits on 5 pillars: Community, Healing, Restoration, Innovation, and Solutions. As your council member, I will be a tireless advocate for these values and will work tirelessly to make our community a place we are all proud to call home.

Thank you for considering me as your candidate for the Hesperia City Council. Together, let's create positive change and build a better Hesperia for future generations.

Sincerely,

Chris Ochoa
